Crous: Run Out TIGERS’ director of rugby Tim Fourie will lead his side into the final pre-season friendly of the close season Friday night at Grove Park against old enemies Manchester, bolstered by the availability of giant back-five forward, Juan Crous. The 6ft 6ins 17-stone young South African, signed from Preston Grasshoppers after impressing for the National Division Three North side against Sedgley in the Lancashire Cup and for the Red Rose County in its County Cup campaign, will be given at least 40 minutes, probably in the second row. Another newcomer who should get a run out is prop Danny Greenhalgh. The former Sale Jet and Bradford & Bingley front rower had his career threatened by injury but he received the green light from the specialist this week to resume his career and he will be out to impress, especially since the Tigers are suffering player-wise from one to three. Having had a surfeit of props last season the side lost Phil Gazzola and Gerallt Evans to injury, while Gareth Roberts has switched to hooker and Sale loanee Martin Halsall was recalled by the Sharks for a training camp. Against Fylde last Friday night stalwart Petrus Du Plessis was joined by Sale youngster Danny Birchall, the 18-year-old making his bow in senior rugby. Halsall has since returned with the Sale side from France and may be available, while Gazzola is aiming to be ready in two weeks time. Another player on loan from Sale, scrum-half Chris Leck, may also be available and if he is he will probably share the number nine shirt with Chris Wilkinson, as Fourie aims to give first choice Jamie Albinson a rest before the big league kick-off. Also missing is fullback Matt Riley, who is still recovering from a rib injury. He is joined on the sidelines by Phil Jones, Andy Craig and Ed Norris, who are all recovering from summer operations. Kick-off at Grove Park is 6.30pm |
