SOUTHPORT 2XV v SEDGLEY PARK 3XV

SouthportSedgley turned up 5 minutes before kick off with a very scratch team. Against a second team, no one gave us a chance. Southport looked bigger and more organised.

We knew or strengths would be in the forwards as that was where our experience and recognised players were, so that was the game we were going to play.

From the first scrum we knew we had a chance as they just didn't look like they were going to compete. The game looked pretty even and we got a penalty and chose to kick. Chris Drench slotted it over.

Southport then scored a good try exposing our new back line.

Sedgley always looked the better team and kept hitting the ball up. As the game went on, we got better and better and this was rewarded with a try for Adam Missle converted by Chris Drench.

Southport threatened a few times but never looked like breaking the Sedgley line. From continued attack Sedgley again were rewarded by a try scored by Chris Hayes converted again by Chris Drench.

Southport managed one more penalty making the game 10-20 before they were awarded a dubious penalty which they tried to run several times but could not break the defence. They eventually decided to kick, but missed.

The game ended Sedgley 20 Southport 10.
