ImageWeekly round-up of what's been going on around National League One.

Coventry 20 London Welsh 26 

Coventry: Tries: Walls (25), Toft (36), Nimmo (59). Con: Russell. Pen: Russell (70).      

Welsh: Tries: Nicholls (32), Penalty Try (48), Lewaravu (55). Con: Jones. Pens: Jones 3 (20, 69, 75).      

London Welsh picked up an excellent away win at the Butts Arena to move up into 10th place in the table.

Matthew Jones gave the visitors the lead with a 20th minute penalty goal but five minutes later scrum half Mike Walls went over the Welsh line and Coventry were ahead.

Seven minutes later and the Welsh were back in front with scrum half Gregg Nicholls going over the home line.

Full back Ben Toft gave the home side the lead again on 36 minutes and Russell converted to make it 12-8 at half time.

Eight minutes into the 2nd half the referee were awarded a penalty try by the referee and Jones converted to make it 15-12. The Welsh went two scores clear when second row Ratu Lewaravu went over and it was a 20-12 lead.

Second row Ian Nimmo went over for the home side and they were back within three going in the final quarter.

Jones put over a couple of penalty goal to edge the visitors further ahead to make it 26-17 after 75 minutes.

Russell put over a penalty goal for the home side late in the claim to get a losing bonus point.  

 

Esher 18 Doncaster 27 

Esher: Tries: Moore (31), Slemen (75). Con: Slemen. Pens: Slemen 2 (2, 10).      

Doncaster: Tries: Cox (46), List (63), Fa’aso (68). Cons: Woodrow 3. Pens: Rees (25), Woodrow (60).      

Doncaster pick up their 15th win of the season with this away win at Esher.

David Slemen kicked the home side into a 6-0 lead with two penalty goals in the opening 10 minutes.

Cerith Rees got the visitors on the board with a 25th minute penalty goal but just after the half hour mark winger Matt Moore crossed the Doncaster line and Slemen converted to send Esher in 13-3 ahead.

Six minutes into the 2nd half and flanker Matthew Cox, on his Doncaster debut,  went over for a score and Mark Woodrow on as a replacement for Rees converted and levelled the scores on the hour with a penalty goal.

Doncaster were in front on 63 m inutes when prop Richard List went over for a try and Woodrow converted. Five minutes later and they were two scores clear as 2nd row Lisiate Fa’aso going over the home line and Woodrow again converted for a 14 point lead.

Esher did get the final score when Slemen went over for a 75th minute try but with the conversion missed the failed to collect a losing bonus point.

      

Exeter 35 Moseley 14

Exeter: Tries: Andy Miller (1), Luff 3 (20, 58, 73), Marsden (77). Cons: Gray 4, Yapp.      

Moseley: Tries: Mason (67), Rodwell (80).     

Exeter remain second after this home win over Moseley to remain six points behind leaders Northampton Saints.

The Chiefs were ahead after just a minute as flanker Andy Miller went over for a try and Danny Gray converted for a 7-0 lead.

The second try came on 20 minutes when winger Jason Luff went over and Gray again converted for 14-0 which was they way it stayed till half time.

Luff completed a double on 58 minutes to join Josh Drauniniu on 14 tries for the season and Gray again converted.

Moseley were on the scoreboard on 67 minutes when flanker and captain Neil Mason went over and Neil Stenhouse converted.

Luff completed his hat trick on 73 minutes and Gray converted as the try bonus point was secured as they went 28-7 ahead. In the closing minutes both sides went in for another try as the Chiefs ran out comfortable winners.     

 

Cornish All Blacks 10 Rotherham Titans 7

CAB: Tries: Clark (26), Sims (63).      

Titans: Try: Cochrane (20).Con: Lennard.      

The Cornish Pirates picked up the win to move off the bottom of the table on the most wins rule since over the Bees.

The Titans were first on the scoreboard when flanker Neil Cochrane went over for a try and fly half Jamie Lennard converted. Six minutes later hooker Neil Clark went over the Titans line and the All Blacks were off the mark and went in two points down at the break.

The winning score came on 63 minutes when replacement second row Dave Sims went over and the home side were 10-7 ahead and they held that lead till the end to take the win. 

 

Newbury 20 Sedgley Park 18 

Newbury: Tries: Perkins (42), Nutt (57). Con: Ashwin, Walsh. Pens: Ashwin (3), Walsh (70).      

Park: Pens: Jones 5 (1, 10, 19, 25, 63).     

Newbury take the win to move above Park in the table in a close match thanks to a late Tim Walsh penalty goal.

Park were on the board after a minute when Phil Jones put over a penalty goal but two minutes later and the home side were level after Chris Ashwin put over a penalty goal Jones then kicked Park into a 15-3 half time lead with three more penalty goals and a drop goal.

In the opening minute of the 2nd half and centre Seb Perkins went over and Ashwin converted. They took the lead on 55 minutes when replacement wing Martin Nutt went over and Tim Walsh converted for 17-15.

Jones edged the visitors ahead again when he put over a 59th minute penalty goal before Walsh kicked the winning penalty on 72 minutes. .    

 

Northampton Saints 35 Bedford Blues 9  

Saints: Tries: Ashton 2 (36, 80), Penalty try (66), Myler (71). Cons: Everitt, Myler 2. Pens: Everitt 2 (8, 18), Myler (43).      

Blues: Pens: Pritchard 3 (3, 16, 57).     

The Saints made it 18 out of 18 with this win over Bedford Blues and collected their 13th try bonus point of the season.

Barry Everitt and James Pritchard swapped a couple of penalty goals to make it 6-6 at the end of the first quarter.

But the first try did not come till the last few minutes of the half when right wing Chris Ashton went over for his 19th try of the season and Stephen Myler on as a replacement converted to lead 13-6 at the break.

In the third quarter Myler and Pritchard swapped penalty goals before the Saints were awarded a penalty try by the referee and Myler added the extras to lead 23-9.

Myler went over for the 3rd try on 71 minutes to pull further ahead and it was Ashton who completed the scoring and secured the try bonus point deep into injury time.    

 

Pertemps Bees 23 Cornish Pirates 27

Bees: Tries: Daish (60), Gabey (66). Cons: Knight 2. Pens: Knight 3 (19, 23, 50).      

Pirates: Tries: Fairhurst (16), Lilo (44), Steenson (74). Cons: Thomas 2, Steenson. Pens: Thomas (14), Steenson (76).      

The Pirates picked up their 15th win of the season but again missed out on the try bonus point again and have only collected five try bonus points all season.

The Pirates were ahead after 14 minutes when fly half Ollie Thomas put over a penalty goal and two minutes later he converted a try from scrum half Ed Fairhurst to make it 10-0.

Paul Knight put over a couple of penalty goals for the home side to get them off the mark and back into the match.

In the 2nd half the Pirates went further ahead when winger Vunga Lilo went over and Thomas again converted to make it 17-6.  

The Bees them came right back into the match when Knight added a third penalty goal and on the hour went over for their first try of the match when flanker Andy Daish went over and Knight converted.  

Six minutes later and the Bees were in front as second row Mark Gabey went over and Knight again converted 23-17.

They held the lead for seven minutes until replacement Gareth Steenson went over and added the conversion to take the lead 24-23 on 74 minutes.

Steenson wrapped up the win two minutes later with a penalty goal and the defeat despite the losing bonus point saw the Bees drop to the bottom of the table.

 

PLAYED SUNDAY

Nottingham 31 Plymouth Albion 9 

Nottingham: Tries: Dodge (6), Duffey (15), Thompson (27), Morley (44), Sherriff (78). Cons: Tonks 3.     

Albion: Pens: Laidlaw 3 (13, 32, 56).     

Nottingham continued their excellent recent form with this comfortable win over Albion beating them five tries to nil.

They were ahead after just six minutes when left wing Alex Dodge went over and full back Greig Tonks converted. Ross Laidlaw slotted over a penalty goal for the visitors but tries from hooker Joe Duffey and fly half Ben Thompson saw the home side move into a 19-3 lead after 28 minutes.

Laidlaw pulled another three points back late in the half as the home side took a 19-6 lead into the break. Four minutes into the second half and the home side had the fourth try and picked up their 12th try bonus point of the season. Laidlaw got a third penalty goal for the visitors but it was the home side who had the final say as flanker Luke Sherriff went over for his 10th try of the season, the best return in the division for a forward this season.
