PREVIEW: SAINTS v TIGERS

Northampton SaintsAFTER losing another game they should have won, the Tigers are going to have to face up to some home truths if they are to turn things around at champions-elect Northampton.

“Key players in key areas are making poor decisions; it’s losing us games and costing us points,” said a frustrated Director of Rugby, Tim Fourie.

“Individually everyone is trying hard but it’s not an individual sport, it’s a team sport and as a team we are not clicking.

“We should have had the Esher game won at half-time, we created enough chances. But our problem isn’t creating chances, it’s taking them.”

“At the moment the three teams below us keep losing too, but if they start winning we will have problems. That kind of situation increases the pressure on us and we are not good at dealing with pressure.

“Esher are eighth; if we had won just three more games – and we should have – we would have been up there with them instead of being fourth from bottom.”

Now he is turning all his attention to the game away to the runaway league leaders and the almost impossible task of taking points off them.

When the two met at Park Lane back in October, Northampton won comfortably, 8-59.

“As a player you look forward to playing at places like of Franklin’s Gardens. We will therefore go there intent on enjoying the occasion but determined not to be embarrassed, to earn some respect and hopefully come away with a point or two.

“We can’t afford to worry about the likes of Chris Ashton or Carlos Spencer; all our energy will be directed at scoring four tries of our own. If we can do that we can maybe come away with something.”
