TIGERS return to league action this Saturday with a trip to Plymouth.
“It’s a team we’ve never beaten, but if there was ever a time to play them it is now,” said Director of Rugby, Tim Fourie.
“They’ve lost their last seven and while we might be used to going on a losing streak they are not.
“If we can get on top of them early the crowd will get on their backs. They are not going to roll over but I’m confident we can come away with a win.
“With no game last weekend the guys have had time to get over their knocks and we’ve had four good training sessions, so we’re looking forward to taking on Graham Dawes’ boys.”
Luther Burrell, Jimmy pontoon and Andy Craig look to have shaken off injuries and sickness, although prop Phil Gazzola will once gain be missing.
Bottom club Launceston occupy one relegation spot, the other is currently filled by Pertemps Bees; however, the Birmingham side beat Rotherham 24-30 last Saturday and are now just five points shy of the Tigers.
“That shouldn’t put any more pressure on us than is already there,” said Fourie. “Like them we’ve five games left – we simply have to win more than them.
“I can’t see them winning more than us so if we win our next three (Plymouth away, London Welsh and Moseley at home) we will be safe by the time we travel down to Birmingham.”
Meanwhile, according to the Plymouth Evening Herald, Albion boss Graham Dawe has challenged his players to reproduce the same passion, commitment and intensity they showed against Northampton last week, when they pushed the Saints hard in the National Trophy semi-final clash before going down 22-8.
'Tim Fourie… is still playing, which is a credit to him, and he is quite an abrasive character on the field so he'll stir his troops up to get a big performance,' said Dawe, whose team needed a 79th-minute penalty try to beat the Tigers 20-14 at Park Lane back in November.
'They know they need some big performances in the final few weeks of the season to make sure they stay in Division One.
'And they have got some class players in their team. They will be no shortage of want in their side and we have to match that. We have to make sure we drop their runners, keep our shape and close them down and then, if and when we get the chance to attack, we have to try and keep them guessing.'
Albion will give a late fitness test to scrum-half Nigel Cane ahead of the game. The club’s longest-serving player suffered a cut hand last week and is rated 50-50 for the game.
If he does not pass his fitness test Ed Lewsey will switch from the wing to scrum-half and Darren Ritchie will come in at 14.
If Cane is fit, Ritchie will remain on the replacements' bench and Albion will start with the same 15 that faced Northampton last week, which would mean a second start for 20-year-old flanker Kyle Marriott.
Flanker Mike Denbee, who missed training this week due to illness, is named in the squad, as is fit-again hooker Richard Oxley.
Definitely out injured are injured Liam Gibson, Wihan Neethling, Ben Gulliver, Martin Rice, Steve Barretto, Mike Lewis, Ross Allan and Emyr Lewis.
