NO more excuses, no more chances; the Tigers have to beat the Titans or face relegation from National Division One (ND1).
“It is possibly the most important game I’ve been involved in since I joined the club, maybe even the most important the club has ever been involved in,” said Director of Rugby, Tim Fourie
“If we go down what are the chances of us ever getting back into ND1? After all there is the plan to cut the league the season after next anyway and we will be operating on a much smaller budget next season no matter which division we are in, so we must make sure we stay in ND1 as long as we can.
“This is the last game of the season; it is a final opportunity to show what we are capable of; it’s a ‘get out of jail’ card.
“What do we have to do? Simple – win! How do we do it? We get the ball and pass it to a team-mate who scores – four times. Like I said, simple.”
Two of the current Tigers’ squad have already signed for another next season – Rotherham!
But rather than being a disadvantage Fourie believes the fact the two sign off their Tigers’ careers against the team they will be playing for next time around is a big help rather than a hindrance.
“They are both very proud guys and they will both want to round off their time at Sedgley as winners and at the same time let Rotherham know exactly why they have recruited them. A five-point win keeps us up and does Rotherham no harm, so I’ll be looking for a huge game from both of them.
“The Titans have been up and down this season, winning big one week and losing big the next. We know we can beat them because we won over at Clifton Lane so all we have to do is beat them again. I know we can do it, the players know they can do, we just have to go out and actually do it.”
Titans’ coach Craig West has named a full-strength side as his charges could break into the top half if results go in their favour.
“We owe it to ourselves to put a strong team out and aim finish in the top-half of the table. There isn’t a bad side in this division and Sedgley Park, Pertemps Bees and Launceston are all more than good enough to compete with anyone which is why it has gone to the wire. We just have to concentrate on our own performance and get the result,” he told the club’s website.
The Tigers’ pack lines up: HALSAL, RODDAM, DU PLESSIS, FOURIE, TOWNSON, NEWTON, PONTON, SKURR with CROUS, NORRIS, ROBERTS, GAZZOLA and BIRCHALL competing for a place on the bench.
Due to late fitness tests and questions concerning availability, the backs will be selected from: RILEY, VAN DEVENTER, CRAIG, BRIERS, ALBINSON Tom, JONES, LECK, PAYNE, ALBINSON Jamie, HALL and BURRELL.
