THE physical pace is building up for the Tigers, with training taking in four nights a week as pre-season preparations gather pace.

Currently Monday nights involve set-piece and tactical training; Tuesday is an optional session; on Wednesday there is a combined gym and field fitness programme while on Friday there is circuit training back on the field, including high pressure touch rugby.

“Training's going very well,” said team manager, Geoff Roberts:“it’s noticeable particularly during the gym sessions just how much the guys are helping each other; team spirit is building nicely.

“We haven’t got our loan players from Leeds and Sale yet, they’re undergoing their own pre-season with their clubs; while Chris Hall is still playing rugby league with Dewsbury Rams and Gerallt Evans is continuing his recovery from a serious knee injury.

“But we have been joined by a number of players from surrounding clubs who are having a look at us while getting stuck in and are showing what they can offer;

“The boys are really appreciating the difference our new strength and conditioning coach, Aled Rowlands is making, and he in turn has been surprised by the level if fitness the guys have already displayed.

“We’ve also had a nutricianist in to speak to them about what they should be eating and drinking not only during training but also both pre and post game.”

Unfortunately,muscle injuries have already struck, with director of rugby and back five forward Tim Fourie pulling a hamstring while hooker Gareth Roberts picking up a tight leg.

However,with treatment they are both looking to be fit for the pre-season friendlies lined up at Wharfedale on August 15 followed by Sale Jets on August 22.

Before that there is a golf day and barbeque followed by the annual team building weekend in Wales.

Back at Park Lane work is being done to spruce up the ground and clubhouse in time for the new season.The perimeter advertising boards have been replaced and areas of the clubhouse have been redecorated and carpeted.
