SEDGLEY VICTORIOUS AT BOWDON 7’s TOURNAMENT

A team of Sedgley players brought home the main cup from the Bowdon 7 a side tournament at the weekend. It was a surprisingly good show by the lads on a Saturday following a heavy evening (that extended into the early hours) at the Player’s Dinner on the Friday.

The tigers found themselves in a 3 team group with Winnington Park and another who were both fairly strong sides. The lads finished 2nd in the group having drawn both games 26-26 and 22-22, not the best start by the lads but enough to stay in the competition.

The quarter finals saw an improvement in play with Sedgley starting to look like a 7’s team, as the boys just beat Wilmslow (winners of group 2) in extra time.

Semi-final – Sedgley drew Lymm who were firm favourites to win the competition. Both sides played some excellent rugby with our boys claiming the win with a try in the last play of normal time!

Final: Sedgley v Caldy – Sedgley started superbly with 4 tries to Caldy’s 1 at half time. Caldy started the 2nd half strongly with 2 fairly quick tries from good play and a couple of dubious refereeing decisions. But Sedgley held strong and scored a fine try in the last play of the game to put them two scores clear of Caldy and certain to take home the Cup.
